Spanish Tile

Cultural Exploration

This project is an exploration into Spanish tiles and cultural significance, most directly connected to talavera tiles. The origins of talavera tiles begin in the 16th century with the fusion of Spanish settlers and European ceramic techniques. The significance of the tiles comes from the motifs. Floral patterns, particularly the margarita symbolize beauty and renewal. Designs are connected to love, prosperity, abundance, and beauty of nature. Geometric shapes are held as signs of harmony and balance.

The design of my tile was based on the idea of eternal love. The design focuses on the incorporation of florals and geometric motifs associated with love, balance, and eternity. Florals such as the daisy represent beauty and renewal, white circular and other geometric elements introduce continuities, stability and harmony. The tile is designed to function as a single tile and a repeatable pattern.
